So, even though official updates will no longer be released for HTC Sensation, you can still use your phone on full power by choosing to install a new custom ROM that is based on latest Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware. Thus, you might want to apply CM12 software on your device; in that matter, you should check the guidelines from below, as I will show you how to easily and safely update your HTC Sensation to Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with CM12 custom ROM firmware.

Why isn’t HTC releasing OTAs for your Sensation? Well, basically due to hardware limitation as let’s face it, the HTC Sensation is no longer a high end Android powered smartphone. So, how come Android 5.0 Lollipop can be installed on your phone? Those of xda-developers ported the stock Lollipop OS and optimized the firmware in order to perfectly fit your HTC Sensation. But, will the ROM run smoothly, or will be there numerous lags and other software related issues? CM12 is designed to smoothly run on your handset, so you will not deal with bugs, lags or any other software issues.
As you can see, CM12 is great for your HTC Sensation, especially if you want to test Android 5.0 Lollipop on your own smartphone. Those of xda-developer made sure that the new firmware is compatible with your phone and that all features and apps are running without problems, even on more low range specs and other hardware and software performances. The best is that with CM 12 installed, your HTC Sensation will actually run better and faster. The battery life will be upgraded and the Android UI improved. Of course, you will not receive the stock Android UI as CM 12 comes with its own looks.
What you need to know now is that this CM12 version is not the official nightly release provided by the CM team. This is an unofficial port of CM 12 that is developed by third party devs for your HTC Sensation. Bottom line, this update has nothing to do with HTC and might be still facing minor problems – don’t worry because you can easily and safely flash the ROM for a daily use. Thus, you are about to complete an unofficial update operation which means you will lose your phone’s warranty – also this process will be risky and complex, so you should be careful when applying the steps from below.
Also a custom ROM, like CM 12, can be installed only in certain conditions. For this tutorial and for being able to flash Android 5.0 Lollipop OS on your HTC Sensation you will first have to root your Android device. Ensure root access, or else the custom ROM will not be capable of accessing and modifying in built programs and settings. Moreover, the installation process will imply in flashing a .zip file on your phone. Well, you can do so only if a custom recovery image is being installed on your HTC Sensation. In that matter, I recommend you to flash CWM or TWRP recovery on your device before doing anything else.
Since this is an unofficial update, in order to avoid unpleasant situations from happening, before starting to apply the steps from below, make a Nandroid backup. By completing this operation you will be able to save the current ROM that runs on your HTC Sensation. Thus, if CM12 will not run properly, you can afterwards replace it with the stock Android OS, without following and applying a custom and complex step by step guide like the present one.
After taking care of the Nandroid process, you should also ensure that a general backup operation is completed. During the update process and while using the custom recovery image for flashing CM 12 Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, a wipe will be performed. Thus, all of your personal data, info and accounts might get wiped out. So, if you have important data saved on your device, now it will be great to make a backup operation. In that matter you can use compatible apps from Google Play; by using dedicated software you can save your contacts, call logs, market apps, internet settings, text messages, images, videos, audio files and anything else you want.
You can complete this update operation only if you can use a computer, your phone and its USB cable. It is a must to deactivate – only temporarily – security protection from your computer and to enable USB debugging option on your smartphone – just go to “menu – settings – developer options”. Don’t go any further without charging your phone – it might get bricked if it gets turned off in the middle of the installation process. So, plug in the charger if the battery status is showing less than 50% power left.
This step by step guide is compatible only with HTC Sensation. Don’t use these guidelines for installing Android 5.0 Lollipop CM12 custom ROM firmware on a similar or different Android device and also try not to mess things up.

HTC 10 is a great Android device. Below you will find all the ROMs that are currently available for this particular handset, thus don’t hesitate and check it all out.
Getting the stock Android packages is not only for testing what’s new on a certain smartphone. For developers this is the perfect chance as based on these default ROMs they can start developing new custom updates that can then be optimized for any other Android powered phone or tablet.
Also, downloading the stock / official Android firmware is a great idea even for those who are already using the HTC 10. Why? Well, mainly because the stock Android OS can be useful in various situations. For example, you can go back to stock after testing a new custom ROM that isn’t running as expected. That because through the same downgrade process you can easily troubleshoot software related problems. Bottom line, you can manually unbrick the HTC 10 when dealing with problems such as boot loops, lags, bugs, force close errors, alerts, screen freeze, battery drain, heating issues, total blackouts and so on.

Now, if you also want to learn how to install these ROMs on the HTC 10, then follow the guidelines from down below.
First of all you need to make a backup – your personal data, info, accounts and files might get corrupted or even wiped out during the update process. Therefore, if you have important data saved on your HTC 10, don’t go any further without using the perfect backup and restore tools: sync your data with your account, manage other cloud storage platforms, download compatible backup and restore apps from Google Play, etc. On your way make sure you also save the essential files: the contacts list, your call logs, text messages, the market apps, general internet settings (EFS folder and IMEI / NVRAM data), personal images, videos, audio files, calendar info or saved passwords.
After taking care of the backup operation make sure you gain Developer Options on your HTC 10. In that respect, go to “menu – settings – about phone” and tap a few times, repeatedly, on the Built Number field. Afterwards, access “menu – settings – developer options” and check the USB Debugging field. Finally, check the battery status bar on your phone. The power left should be at least 50%.
